What is the Bottle Cap Challenge? All you need to know about latest craze

The Bottle Cap Challenge has become the latest craze to sweep social media.

The new challenge requires people to side-kick the cap off a plastic bottle of water, placing the item on a flat surface and full unscrewing the top with a roundhouse martial arts kick.

The challenge gained traction when acting star Jason Statham posted a slo-mo video of him taking part, whilst other Hollywood stars have followed suit.

The challenge originated on June 25, courtesy of Taekwondo fighter and instructor Farabi Davletchin.

However, it is believed to have gone viral after being picked up by MMA star Max Holloway, who tried it out on social media.

It has spread through the UFC universe, with Conor McGregor taking part and challenging former opponent Floyd Mayweather.

Holloway was also the man to challenge Hollywood star John Mayer, who in turn challenged Statham.

He then passed the challenge on to Guy Ritchie, whilst Ryan Reynolds and Ellie Goulding are amongst those who have also since taken part.

The challenge is the latest summer social media craze after various bizarre trends in recent years.

Previously, social media has been swept by the Ice Bucket Challenge, raising awareness for ALS, where people dump cold water of their heads.

Last summer, the internet took to the In My Feelings Challenge as people danced in the streets to the Drake track.

The Mannequin Challenge also went viral in late 2016, featuring videos of people remain frozen in action like mannequins with the son "Black Beatles" by Rae Sremmurd playing in the background.

But the Bottle Cap Challenge is the latest stunt proving popular and requiring a level of skill to complete.
