What is the Bill Clinton Swag challenge? How to do the Instagram record trend

With all of us stuck inside and spending more time online than ever, a number of TikTok dance trends and Internet challenges are sweeping social media.

The latest is the Bill Clinton record challenge, a trend primed for music buffs to show off their eclectic tastes.

Based on a picture of the former president which The Onion photoshopped together for spoof article ‘Clinton Writes Fan Letter to Joan Jett’ (featuring Clinton surrounded by Jett albums), the image has now taken on a new life of its own.

Programmer Thomas Millar, who developed a website to make the challenge easier, revealed recently that his site BillClintonSwag.com has seen a spike of nearly 448,000 page views.

For more on what it is and how to participate - sans photoshop skills - read on.

What is the Bill Clinton record challenge?

The Bill Clinton record challenge is a way for music lovers to show off their four favourite albums... with the help of one former president.

Social media users swap out the four albums for their defining records in a picture of Clinton - with one nestled safely in his arms as he poses with headphones on - and nominate four people to take on the challenge.

Here's one we made earlier...

How to do the Bill Clinton record challenge

If you’ve been tagged by a friend (or just want to do it yourself), you don’t need expert Photoshop skills to take part. A tech expert called Thomas Millar developed a website called BillClintonSwag.com which makes things much easier, with no editing involved.

Head to the website then all you have to do is click on one of the albums in the Clinton photograph and type in which record you’d like to replace it with.

After you’ve made all your choices, you can save the picture and share it to your various social media accounts - nominating four people to do it in the process.
