What is I, Sniper on Channel 4 about and who is Lee Malvo?

Channel 4 are releasing a six-part documentary developed over a 15 year period about the story of the 2002 Beltway Sniper Attack.

It will offer a better understanding of Lee Malvo, the surviving shooter.

I, Sniper will air on Channel 4 on January 24 at 9pm and continue weekly at the same time.

What is I, Sniper on Channel 4 about?

The series is about a number of murders that took place across a three-week time frame in 2002 where ten people were killed and three more were injured.

The attacks were random but were coordinated shootings that occurred during three weeks in October 2002.

The name Beltway comes from the highway that surrounds Washington DC.

Attackers Malvo and Muhammad first killed in February of that year and over the ten month period, the pair shot and killed 17 people.

21-year-old cashier Keenya Nicole Cook became their first victim. Cook’s aunt was a friend of Muhammad’s ex-wife and had encouraged her to divorce.

Who is Lee Malvo?

Malvo was 17 years old during the time of the killings. Along with Muhammad, he was arrested on October 2002 and he is still alive today.

Born in Jamaica to Lesli Malvo, a mason, and Una James, a seamstress. His parents separated when he was five years old and he lived with his aunt before reuniting with his mother in Antigua, where he met Muhammad.

Malvo’s mother moved to the US and therefore Malvo was left in Muhammad’s care.
