What is holding up a potential Robert Quinn trade?

It was just two days ago that Dolphins defensive end Robert Quinn went out to Dallas to meet and explore the potential interest of the Dallas Cowboys. And hot off the heels of the trade of Ryan Tannehill, it was all sunshine and rainbows: Miami was going to flip another player they had no intention to keep for another draft pick.

But the Quinn visit came and went and there’s been no traction ever since. What happened? What’s the hold up? Considering the ramifications for Dallas, they may be making sure they aren’t bidding against themselves.

What ramifications, you ask? Dallas bringing Quinn into the fold will involve surrendering a draft pick, but it will also involve signing Quinn to an extension in order to keep his cap figure down.

And with reported interest also coming from the Saints, the Dolphins are almost assuredly trying to press the issue for compensation. That asking price, which has been reported to be a 2020 draft selection, will be one Dallas will only part with if they have to.

So for now, Dallas and Miami and New Orleans will wait it out. At least until someone gets serious with their offer.
