What is happening to former flybmi routes from Bristol Airport after airline's collapse?

Frequent flyers have been left in the lurch after the collapse of flybmi

The airline, which flew to France, Germany and Scotland from Bristol Airport, went bust in February leaving people stranded across Europe.

While Scottish regional carrier Loganair has picked up the former BMI route from Bristol to Aberdeen, uncertainty still surrounds the future of the now defunct airline's other flight paths.

Regular users of their early morning services for business have been forced to travel from Bristol to Exeter, London and elsewhere to catch a flight instead.

One Twitter user wrote to the airport: "Do you know if any airline is going to pick up the routes deserted by the demise of FlyBMI? I travel to Frankfurt regularly for work and the extra travel time to Heathrow is a real pain!"

Another wrote: "Any news on anyone picking up the BMI morning Bristol to Paris route? If not I’ll have to go to Exeter."

A spokesperson for the city's airport said discussions were underway with 'a number of airlines' about picking up the ex-Flybmi routes.

"Since flybmi’s departure we have been working with a number of airlines on replacing the routes impacted.

"With the exception of Logan Air operating the Aberdeen route, no other confirmed information is available currently," they said.

"While discussions with a number of airlines are taking place, we are not in a position to make any announcements at this stage."

It is not clear at this stage which airlines the hub is in discussions with.

Before its collapse, Flybmi operated 17 regional jet aircraft on routes to 25 European cities. It blamed Brexit uncertainty, as well as fuel and carbon costs for its demise.

All flights were cancelled on February 16 and 376 jobs were put at risk.

The Aberdeen flight path relaunched with Loganair on March 4.

What to do if you have booked flights with flybmi

Passengers are being asked to contact their payment card issuer to obtain a refund for flights which have not yet taken place.

Customers who have booked flybmi flights via a travel agent or one of flybmi’s codeshare partner airlines are recommended to contact their agent or airline for details of options available to them.

Customers who have travel insurance should contact their travel insurance provider to find out if they are eligible to claim for cancelled flights and the procedure for doing so.
