What is Google's Nano Banana? How to create 3D figurines

Google Gemini has rolled out a new suite of features to its AI photo editing suite with the Gemini 2.5 Flash Image update, also known as Nano Banana.

Some of the features include combining different images to get the perfect shot with no closed eyes, funny faces, or unwelcome additions, or trying out different styles and looks after taking just one selfie.

That’s added to the existing uses of Gemini, like powerful search functionality and even AI for therapy.

The one that’s taken the internet by storm, however, is the 3D figurine trend, where you can turn a 2D photo into images of a 3D statuette of yourself or a loved one. Here’s how to do it.

How to use Google's Nano Banana to create 3D figurines

Google Gemini already has this functionality built into the chat model, but you will need to use a prompt for it to know what you want.

Use the one below to get started, although remember you can finetune a prompt to best suit your purposes.

“Transform this image into a stylised 3D figurine. Make it look like a collectible vinyl figure or small resin statue, with smooth surfaces, simplified details, and a glossy painted finish. Show it from a three-quarter angle as if it were sitting on a display stand. Lighting should highlight the figurine’s shape and textures, giving it a realistic physical look.”

If you put that into Gemini along with a photo (make sure it’s a full-body, good-quality one), then you’ll get your own version of the figurines going viral on social media.

If you prefer a 3D figurine that looks like a Funko Pop, or you want to stylise yourself with a different outfit, or virtually any option you can think of.

You can try it out with any photo of yourself, a loved one, or even a pet to see how it looks. If you prefer a clear base, a standalone figurine, or any style of image, you can tweak the prompt endlessly to suit your needs.
