What is Arsene Wenger up to now? How former Arsenal boss has spent year out of football

Having finished his 22-year spell at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger rightly deserved some time away from the game.

It’s a year since he left his role at the Gunners and since then, the spectre of the Frenchman has hung over many managerial and sporting director vacancies.

Wenger has reportedly interviewed for a technical director role at FIFA, a director of football role at Paris Saint-Germain and the manager of the Japan national team side.

He was tentatively linked to the Real Madrid managers spot when Santiago Solari was struggling and, before Claudio Ranieri was appointed at Fulham , the London club contacted Wenger about possibly taking over at Craven Cottage.

The former Monaco boss has claimed he’s been offered the France manager’s job several times, although as they won the World Cup just last year, it seems unlikely they’ll remove Didier Deschamps as manager.

So what has Wenger been doing since leaving Arsenal ?

During his time off in the past year, Wenger has dedicated a huge amount of his time with his daughter Lea and long-term partner Annie, admitting he missed a lot while he was at the helm at Arsenal.

He’s also been highly praised for his work as a pundit for beIN Sports, alongside former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, as their insight and openness has been refreshing for viewers.

As a result of his work for beIN in Qatar, Wenger has a good relationship with their Qatari owners - also owners of PSG - which is why links connecting him to a ‘general manager’ role at PSG have appeared.

Wenger also received the Laureus Lifetime Achievement award earlier in the 2019 for how he revolutionised English football in the early 1990’s.

At 69 years of age, Wenger has experienced and achieved a lot in football, but given how his time at Arsenal finished, it is unclear whether he would be successful if he was to get back into management.
