The Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle season has brought plenty of unique gameplay features to the island. One of the more complex systems is Alignment, and it's a crucial one to understand.
This system is a great way to earn XP and unlock special gameplay effects and abilities you otherwise don't have access to. It ties in quite well with the overarching storyline present in all Star Wars content, too, so if you're a fan, you'll love this feature. Here's what Alignment is and how it works in Fortnite.

How does Alignment work in Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle?

Alignment essentially refers to the light side and dark side of the Force in Fortnite. These two battling paths are at the core of every Star Wars project, and they're now fundamental for shaping the abilities you have access to on the Fortnite island, too.
It's sort of similar to Outlaw Keycards and the hidden Black Market rooms from Chapter Six, season three, since all features related to it are not unlocked right away. Instead, they become available as the season progresses and players contribute progress to either side.
How to change your Alignment in Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle
You can change your Alignment by tackling specific Alignment quests for either the light side or the dark side. There are many quests for both sides, so there are lots of unique tasks you can work on. You'll also need to know how to progress your light and dark alignment.
All Alignment rewards in Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle

There are four Alignment rewards that have been unlocked so far. All four prizes are essentially upgrades to the services offered by characters around the map. Here's everything you need to know about all of the available rewards.
Reward | Character | Alignment | Effect |
---|---|---|---|
Storm circle hint | Leia Organa | Light side | You can spend gold bars to reveal future storm circles. This works similar to the Forecast Towers you can interact with around the map. |
Patch Up | Luke Skywalker | Light side | You can spend gold bars to buy the Patch Up service, which restores 50 health. |
Rift to Go | Han Solo | Light side | You can spend gold bars to buy a Rift that spawns right by you. This Rift teleports you up into the sky so you can then deploy your Glider and travel quickly around the island. |
Offer health for shields | General Grievous | Dark side | You can give up some of your shields to gain health. There's no gold bar cost for this service since the currency you spend is your shields. |
More Alignment rewards will likely become available as the season progresses since all of them unlock based on community progress. All future Alignment rewards are expected to be available with NPCs around the map, just as the ones already unlocked are. As any additional ones become available, we'll add them here.

Which Alignment should you choose in Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle?
As of May 15, the light side is by far the better Alignment to choose in Fortnite. This may change as the community goals progress and additional rewards become available, but for now, it's no contest.
The light side alignment has three rewards, all of which grant different helpful benefits. There's only one NPC who grants a dark side reward, and it drains your shields for health. This prize is dangerous and not really that helpful, so even if you're not interested in all three light side prizes, any one of them is better alone than the singular dark side ability. And since you get all three by progressing this track, the light side is certainly the best path to choose for now.
You may be worried about losing access to certain Force abilities or Lightsabers by choosing one path or another, since they're all tied to masters from both sides. All Force powers and Lightsabers remain available regardless of which side you choose, so the only difference between them is which new abilities you unlock.
Since there are additional updates planned that will likely bring more dark side NPCs and benefits to the island, I recommend working on both Alignments. Doing so ensures you get to earn the most XP possible and experience everything the Star Wars season has to offer. You'll also be able to quickly pivot for future dark side rewards. I've been working on both paths with no issues so far, so feel free to try the light side and the dark side if you aren't sure which one is right for you.
