Which Irish sports events have been cancelled due to coronavirus? FAI, GAA and IRFU suspend all activity until March 29

Irish sport has been brought to standstill after the government introduced new measures to tackle the coronavirus outbreak yesterday.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar advised that outdoor gatherings of over 500 people, as well as indoor gatherings of 100, be cancelled as well as schools, colleges and public facilities shutting down until March 29.

And the restrictions have led to a host of sporting events being suspended or scheduled to be played behind closed doors.

GAA, FAI and IRFU all acted quickly yesterday - suspending all activity until March 29.

Here's a breakdown of the sports affected by the measures:

GAA

All GAA has been suspended until March 29 at the least.

There will be no activity of any kind during that period at any level within the game.

Football

The FAI has suspended all football activity until March 29 at the least.

All League of Ireland and domestic football will not go ahead during that period.

As of now, Ireland’s Euro 2020 playoff against Slovakia hasn’t officially been postponed, but is behind closed doors.

But it’s unlikely to go ahead, with Slovakia today writing to Uefa for the game to be postponed.

Outside of Ireland, most European worldwide have been suspended - including Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and the Bundesliga.

Euro 2020 could also be postponed for one year, with Uefa to make a decision on their competitions next Tuesday.

Horse Racing

As things stand, the final day of the Cheltenham Festival is going ahead as planned despite the fears.

But Horse Racing Ireland has confirmed that all Irish meetings will be behind closed doors for the rest of the month.

Boxing
