The Democrats hold the second day of their convention 100 years to the day when the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote was ratified on August 18, 1920.
To that end, expect Democrats to make the womens’ vote a theme as they make big pitches to crank up female turnout on Tuesday, at the Illinois delegation meeting and then at the main convention session starting at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Democratic Party of Illinois will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. previewing the theme, “Women Leaders. Women’s Rights.” Mary Morrissey, Executive Director, Democratic Party of Illinois; Rep. Robin Kelly; Comptroller Susana Mendoza; Marie Newman, Democratic candidate for Illinois’s 3rd congressional district; and Terry Cosgrove, President & CEO of the abortion rights Personal PAC will speak.
At the 6:30 p.m. delegation meeting, the speakers will include a string of the top Illinois Democratic elected officials, including Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
