It looks like we may well be seeing a lot more of Japhet Tanganga over the coming weeks after an impressive Premier League debut against Liverpool.
With one clean sheet in 12 games following Jose Mourinho's arrival and having conceded first in their last five games, the Spurs boss switched things about in defence following some dismal showings over the festive period.
Davinson Sanchez, who last started against Brighton & Hove Albion, was recalled to the side and Tanganga was also handed his first league start for the Lilywhites after featuring on the bench recently.
The 20-year-old was excellent over the course of the 90 minutes against the runaway league leaders and he didn't look out of place one bit as he produced some vital blocks and put in some good tackles.
Toby Alderweireld was alongside the Spurs academy ace at the back and he stated that a full week on the training pitch with Mourinho helped the youngster as he went on to praise his fellow defender.
"I think he had a wonderful game," said the Belgian international. "It was good for him that we had a clear week to train with a good tactical view of how we wanted to play and how he needed to play. I think that helped him as well.
"Today he showed against a good opponent that he is a very talented boy."
"He showed today with the high step up that he can cope," added Alderweireld when asked if the player has a big future at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
"He's 20 years old. He's a guy who has a good head as well, he knows what he's doing, he's trying to improve and that's the most important thing.
"He has to go from here but he can be very happy with his performance."
Tanganga will be hoping to be involved again on Tuesday when Middlesbrough travel to N17 for the FA Cup third round replay.
