What has been the best move of the Raiders offseason?

The Raiders certainly haven’t been quiet this off-season. They’ve made a number of blockbuster moves including cutting Derek Carr and trading away Darren Waller for a third-round pick.

They’ve also added some talent, including Jimmy Garoppolo and two veteran tight ends in Austin Hooper and O.J. Howard. But what has been their best move of the offseason so far?

In a recent article by Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus, he named his favorite and least-favorite move by every team this offseason. His favorite move by the Raiders was signing veteran receiver Jakobi Meyers to a very team-friendly deal. Here is what he had to say about the signing:

This is an interesting fit, as Hunter Renfrow has lined up in the slot around 70% of snaps thus far in his career and Meyers is right behind at 65%. Nevertheless, the value here for Las Vegas is excellent, with Meyers’ undrafted status and slow 40-yard dash time following him onto his second contract.

Since 2020, Meyers dropped just 3.1% of targets, a top 20 mark among qualifying wide receivers. At 6-foot-2 and 200 lbs, he uses his frame to battle for contested catches. Meyers’ 63.2% contested catch rate also ranks fourth best among wide receivers over the past three seasons.

The Raiders needed to add a No. 2 receiver this offseason and they were able to sign the top free-agent receiver on the market at a very reasonable price. While Meyers isn’t overly dynamic, he is as reliable as it gets and is a fantastic blocker.

Meyers should instantly help the offense for the Raiders in Year 1, especially considering his familiarity with the scheme. There just isn’t a lot to dislike about this move by the Raiders.
