What has been said about Mo Salah's injury and his chances of playing for Liverpool vs Palace

Mohamed Salah needs "a period of treatment to recover" from the injury that has made him a doubt for Liverpool's game against Crystal Palace next week.

That's according to the Egyptian Football Association, who have released a statement on the Liverpool forward's fitness after he was ruled out of the upcoming international fixtures against Kenya and Comoros.

The 27-year-old has been struggling with an ankle problem in recent weeks, having been forced to leave the field during the Reds' 2-1 win against Leicester City at the start of October.

He was substituted in the latter stages of Liverpool's win against Manchester City after taking a knock to the ankle, having scored earlier in the game, but he was pictured in Cairo wearing a protective boot after reporting for international duty.

But his absence from Egypt's games over the international break - and the statement from the country's FA - has left Liverpool sweating on his fitness ahead of the game against Crystal Palace on Saturday, November 23, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that the 27-year-old could miss the match at Selhurst Park.

The statement on Egypt's FA Twitter page read: “The medical staff of our national team, under the leadership of Dr Mohamed Abul-Ela, confirmed the lack of readiness of Mohamed Salah to play the matches of Kenya and Comoros after intensive tests.

“The injury needs a period of treatment to recover."

Salah is not the only injury doubt for Liverpool ahead of the game against Palace, with full-back Andy Robertson also fighting to be fit for the trip to Selhurst Park.

Robertson has withdrawn from the Scotland squad, with the former Hull City defender also nursing an ankle issue.
