What Harry Winks has said about Gareth Southgate's management skills amid Tottenham links

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has opened up on what it's like to be managed by England boss Gareth Southgate.

Southgate guided England to the semi-finals of the World Cup last year and has already secured qualification for the Euro 2020 competition.

Whilst Mauricio Pochettino is leading the way at Tottenham at the moment, reports have suggested that Spurs are eyeing Southgate as potential replacement if the Argentine decides to leave.

Winks, meanwhile, has featured three times for the national team this season and bagged his first goal in the 4-0 win in Kosovo on Sunday evening.

The 23-year-old has nothing but praise for Southgate, who he says helped him through a tough period when he was not making the grade at the national level.

"There is a huge amount of respect for Gareth Southgate from the England squad," Winks told talkSPORT. "All the boys are on the same page.

"He has a tendency to talk to every player individually. There was a time earlier in the camps that I wasn't getting game-time enough time and it would have been easy to be down about it. He still made me feel a part of the squad and came and talked to me about it."

Winks also added his thoughts on what it was like to score his first England goal.

"For me it's up there with the best moment of my career to date," Winks added. "It has always been a dream to play for England, let alone for score. I have been playing in that deeper role but this time I had a chance to score and I took it."
