What Harry Kane said about his penalty appeal in Spurs' north London derby draw with Arsenal

Harry Kane has admitted that it was a 50-50 call as to whether or not Spurs should have had a penalty awarded in the north London derby against Arsenal.

The Tottenham striker scored from the penalty spot in the first half of the game at the Emirates Stadium, giving Spurs a 2-0 advantage against their north London rivals.

But there were calls for a second penalty for Spurs in the latter stages of the game, as Kane went down under a challenge from Arsenal defender Sokratis with the score at 2-2.

The appeals were waved away by referee Martin Atkinson, with the game finishing in a 2-2 draw as the north London rivals shared the spoils.

And Kane made an admission about the decision as he spoke to Sky Sports after the game.

“I think so. I’ll have to watch it back. It was that stage of the game where he makes a tired tackle," he said.

"If I’m on the half-way line, I get it. When you’re in the box, it is kind of 50/50.

"The ref probably thinks I’m looking for it but all I’m trying to do is shield the ball. It is what it is, it’s one of those. In some games it’s given, some it isn’t.”

Meanwhile, Kane spoke of his emotions after the game, having seen Spurs pegged back by Arsenal, after opening up a 2-0 advantage in the first half.

"A little disappointed. Whenever you go 2-0 up in a game, you always expect to win, no matter who you are playing or what game it is. The goal before half-time has changed a bit of the momentum, a sloppy time to concede," he said.

“Second half it was both teams going for the win. I felt they were on top for the first half of the second half but we still had some chances to finish it off. Their ‘keeper made some good saves at 2-1. Then they got the goal and it was anyone’s to take. All in all, it’s a point, we have to accept it and move on.”
