What Happens When You Stick A Turbo on a Superbike-Swapped Miata?

Way back in December of last year, we introduced you to the first iteration of this truly awesome-sounding creation. If you'll recall, a YouTuber who goes by the name Reed Makes Car had gone to the trouble of swapping the engine and transmission from a Honda CBR1000RR into his Mazda Miata.

At the time, he left it naturally aspirated, and did not seek to give it even the smallest amount of boost. It's kind of like the car mod equivalent of tasting your food before you pour a bunch of salt or hot sauce on it, you know?

But that was then. This, friends? This is now, and now it's officially turbo time.

Reed added a Garrett turbo, as well as an intercooler and accompanying ECU so he can dial in the settings that work best for his particular application. He also mentions that he stripped all nonessential weight from his Miata, so it weighs around 1,500 pounds.

If all goes according to plan, he's hoping to reach the magic 200 brake horsepower number, as well as document what kind of torque it's making since previous commenters (oh, YouTube commenters) seemed convinced it wasn't making any.

Does he hit the magic number? Now, I could tell you that you have to watch the video to find out, and you probably should. But I'll also tell you that indeed, it goes as well or better than he hoped. You'll still probably want to watch it just to hear the sounds it makes, though the real test will be when he does another video in the future taking it out on the road. Proving that the mods are doing what you want them to do on the dyno is one thing, but the real fun out of a project like this always comes from driving it and experiencing the day-to-day with your baby.

Would you totally lose your mind if this Miata came pssh-psshing up to you at a stoplight? Let us know in the comments.
