What happens to stolen and broken e-scooters in Nottingham

Wind has revealed what happens when a e-scooter is stolen or broken in Nottingham.

The bright yellow e-scooters are part of a trial undergone by Nottingham City Council and are loctaed across the city, available for the public to use.

But with so many e-scooters deployed across the city, it's to be expected for some to be misplaced, lost or even stolen by users who hire them out for a ride.

However, the company says GPS trackers mean that every scooter can be retrieved even if they are taken out of Nottingham or somewhere that they shouldn't be.

A spokesperson for Wind said: "We had a very few cases of stolen scooters, which is something that we experience in all markets.

"Nothing out of the oridnary in Nottingham. However, scooters can all be tracked via GPS. So we are able to locate and retrieve them - even if they are taken outside the operating area."

The company also deploys 'patrollers' around Nottingham as part of the project - who roam around on e-scooters to identify and take action against anyone caught pavement riding, or riding or parking their e-scooter irresponsibly.

As well as stolen scooters, Wind has a plan in place for any that get broken by users.

The spokesperson continued: "We have also seen a very few incidents of broken scooters within the trial area. Usually, damages stem from mishandling/misuse of the vehicles and are isolated incidents.

"The e-scooters have a built-in fault detection system that is running continuous checks of the vehicle.

"If a fault is detected, the scooter will automatically be blocked and users cannot rent it anymore. Simultaneously, our local team is alerted and can collect the scooter for maintenance."
