What happens to children of separated or divorced parents during lockdown

Glasgow's schools have been closed since Friday and families across the city are getting used to a new way of life as lockdown continues.

While the weans may be excited by the prospect of some time away from school, the situation can be a real headache for parents who are still needing to balance working life and childcare.

The situation is even more complicated if you are divorced or separated from your parented and having to juggle sharing custody while adapting to new government restrictions.

The new lockdown rules are raising questions about where children should stay if they usually split their time between two parents.

Details for separated parents and how they can plan their childcare arrangement during the coronavirus have been clarified.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that children under 18 were permitted to move between their parents' homes.

Michael Gove sparked fear earlier this week when he suggested that children should not travel between households. But he later apologised for causing confusion, saying it "may be necessary" for some to children to move.

He added: "This is permissible and has been made clear in the guidance."

The official Government guidance states: "Where parents do not live in the same household, children under 18 can be moved between their parents' homes."
