What happens inside a coronavirus testing pod? Good Morning Britain take a look inside

Good Morning Britain have taken a look inside some of the UK's coronavirus testing pods to reveal what actually happens inside.

As the number of people testing positive for the virus in the UK continues to rise, the NHS has begun to roll out more pods along with drive-through testing centres.

The testing centre included a 'drive-through' option for patients (ITV)

As of 9am on Monday, 319 people have tested positive for Covid-19, and five people have died in British hospitals.

ITV's Jonathan Swain took a look inside a pod in Belfast, and showed viewers what to expect if they need to get tested.

The presenter walked through the pods, saying: "People who have an appointment come into one of these rooms, then they take two or three samples of swabs from the patient and then they are sent off for testing."

Walking out of the testing rooms, the presenter then showed where people can get tested without even leaving their car.

He said: "You also have the option of driving straight in off the main road, and the test is carried out here while you don't even have to leave your car."

Jonathan Swain had his nose and throat swabbed during the test (ITV)

Getting tested himself, Jonathan was approached by a nurse while inside his car, who then took a swab from his nasal passage and the back of his throat.

The results in Belfast usually take about five hours, but elsewhere in the UK, the results can take several days.

After the test, he said: "It's very painless and not at all unpleasant, so fingers crossed I get the all clear."

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
