What happened to Thomas Partey on his first outing since confirmed £45m Arsenal transfer

Arsenal dominated the headlines this week after signing Thomas Partey on deadline day.

The 27-year-old's £45m release clause at Atletico Madrid was triggered by the Gunners on Monday evening, with an official announcement of him being a Gunners player coming after 11 pm.

But Partey is yet to train with his new teammates at London Colney.

Untelevised Premier League matches to go PPV

That's because he, like several of the Gunners' first-team squad, has international commitments for the next few days.

And for the very first time since his move to Arsenal was confirmed, Partey started for Ghana in their international friendly against Mali on Friday evening.

However, it turned out to be a fixture he will want to forget in a hurry as Ghana were beaten 3-0 win thanks to goals from Hamari Traore, El Bilal Toure, and Amadou Haidara.

Partey played the full 90 minutes against Mali, lining up in a midfield three Bernard Mensah and Alexander Djiku, although there's no suggestion he was at fault for any of the three goals.

Next up for Ghana is a clash against Qatar on Monday afternoon before Partey jets to the UK for his first Arsenal training session ahead of potentially making his Premier League debut away at Manchester City next weekend.

Partey has already delivered his verdict on his £45m Arsenal transfer and thanked supporters for their messages.

"Hello, Gunners!" he told Arsenal’s official Instagram channel. "Thanks so much for the love, for the messages I’ve received.

"I can't wait to be part of you guys, I can't wait to join the team.

"It's a great feeling to be part of a family like this. Thanks so much to everyone for the love, I feel so grateful and I feel so amazed to be part of you.

"I can't wait to join you guys.

"And don’t forget, no Thomas, no Partey!"
