Federico Macheda
A hero of the 2008/09 title campaign, Macheda joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Cardiff on a free transfer in 2014.
After two years in Wales and another two back in Italy, the striker joined Panathinaikos in 2018 and is one of the top scorers in this year’s Greek Super League.
Davide Petrucci
Another Italian talent who didn’t quite make the grade, Petrucci left United for CFR Cluj in Romania without playing a senior game.
He’s now back home at Ascoli, via a spell in Turkey, and has played 19 times in Serie B this season.
Darren Fletcher
Fletcher’s near-20 year involvement with United ended in January 2015 when West Bromwich Albion picked him up on a free.
While he hasn’t officially retired after spells with West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City, earlier this month the Scottish midfielder admitted to BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound that he probably won’t play again.
Anderson
A veteran of the 2008 Champions League victory, Anderson returned to Brazil in 2015 joining Internacional.
He retired in September 2019, at the age of 31, having last played for Adana Demirspor in Turkey.
Anders Lindegaard
Lindegaard left in the summer of 2015, with Sergio Romero taking his place as United’s second-choice goalkeeper.
The Dane spent the next four years in England with West Brom, Preston North End and then Burnley before joining Swedish side Helsingborgs in 2019, playing 15 times in the Allsvenskan last season.
Tom Thorpe
Centre-back Thorpe played just once for United, coming off the bench in a victory over West Ham United in 2014.
He has been without a club since leaving Indian Super League side ATK in 2018.
Ben Amos
Another summer 2015 departure, Amos joined Bolton after a successful loan spell and stayed there until 2019.
He moved to Charlton over the summer and made his debut for the London club in the EFL Cup in August.
Tom Cleverley
After finishing the 2014/15 season on loan at Aston Villa, Cleverley was picked up by Everton on a free.
He left the Toffees for Watford in 2017, and has played 11 times for the Hornets this season.
Vanja Milinkovic-Savic
The brother of Serbia midfielder Sergej, Milinkovic-Savic left United in 2015 after work-permit struggles and spent a productive season with Lechia Gdansk in Poland.
The goalkeeper has since moved to Torino, but spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Standard Liege, playing for the Belgian club against Arsenal in the Europa League.
