What happened to Matteo Guendouzi during Arsenal training session ahead of Leicester City trip

The Arsenal squad are in good spirits ahead of this evening's Premier League encounter with Leicester City.

That could be somewhat surprising given the performances and results of late.

In the Gunners' last six games across all competitions they've won just once and let a lead slip in four of those - including their last two home fixtures in the league against Crystal Palace and Wolves.

They'll be hoping to return to winning ways in the day's late kick-off, otherwise they could find themselves nine points outside of the Champions League places come full-time.

Ahead of the trip to the King Power Stadium the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Kieran Tierney were put through their paces at the club's training base at London Colney.

And there was an unfortunate moment for one player.

As seen in the two images below, Matteo Guendouzi was on the receiving end of some harsh treatment by Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasniac.

It's unclear as to what the young Frenchman did to warrant being kicked on the backside by his two teammates.

Furthermore, Bukayo Saka appears to be releasing a headlock hold on Guendouzi.

Guendouzi is likely to earn a recall to the Gunners starting line-up for the clash against the Foxes after featuring as a substitute against Vitoria in the Europa League on Wednesday afternoon.

However, Sky Sports pundit and ex-Arsenal ace Charlie Nicholas has urged Emery not to start the Frenchman.

"Matteo Guendouzi is having a shocker and he is getting away with it due to Xhaka – he needs to be taken out of the team," Nicholas told Sky Sports.

"I would rather Unai Emery go with Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Lucas Torreira.

"This is his (Torreira's) normal position, so let them be the legs in front of you."

With that said, Guendouzi has been an ever-present in the Premier League so far this season and as Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos are both unavailable, it would be a shock if he's named on the bench at the King Power Stadium.
