What happened to Manchester United 2018 transfer departures

After a largely disappointing campaign, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to overhaul his Manchester United squad in the upcoming transfer window, but it was a different story this time last year.

Despite spending £19 million and £52 million on Diogo Dalot and Fred respectively, then-manager Jose Mourinho only sold two players for a combined fee of around £20m.

Versatile midfielder Daley Blind was sold to Ajax for £14m, whilst academy graduate goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was sold to relegated West Bromwich Albion for an estimated £6.5m.

But how have the pair got on since leaving the Reds, and have they left the club ruing their decision to sell?

Blind has enjoyed a fruitful year since rejoining his boyhood club. The Netherlands international made 57 appearances throughout the season, helping his side to a League and Cup double. It earned Blind a place in the Eredivisie Team of the Year. He contributed with six goals along the way, including a hat-trick from the centre-back against De Graafschap.

The former United man also narrowly missed out on a Champions League final as his side lost out to a last-minute goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the semis, after going 3-0 up on aggregate.

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, 26, may not have enjoyed as much success as fellow ex-Red Blind, but still managed to help West Brom to the Championship play-off semi-finals.

Despite not making an appearance for United, Johnstone seems to have found his level in the Championship. The former England under-20 stopper was an ever-present for the Baggies last season and kept nine clean sheets, as his side finished 4th.
