What happened to Kieran Tierney in Arsenal training session ahead of Tottenham clash

Arsenal players are gearing up for the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

And the squad were in a relaxed mood in training as they look to get back to winning ways following Tuesday night's 1-1 draw against Leicester City which all but ended their faint Champions League hopes.

But Europa League qualification is still a realistic target for the Gunners as well as finishing above their bitter rivals for the first time since the 2015/2016 season.

Tottenham v Arsenal: Premier League match preview

Ahead of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Reiss Nelson, Alexandre Lacazette, David Luiz and Hector Bellerin were put through their paces at the club's training base at London Colney.

And this is where Kieran Tierney was given a new nickname.

As spotted in a behind the scenes of Arsenal's training session video uploaded to the club's YouTube page, the defenders are going through a passing and finishing drill.

At around the 4.51 mark, Rob Holding is tasked with picking out Tierney in the box.

Whilst the ball is in the air, you can hear a coach scream "Tescos" before Tierney comes into the picture with a headed attempt at goal.

It could be argued that the Scotland international was put off by the shout as his header was saved.

Of course, the nickname is in reference to Arsenal defender being spotted carrying his matchday gear in a Tesco bag before playing Sheffield United in the FA Cup last month.

It prompted a response from the official Tesco Twitter account which can be seen below.

Meanwhile, head coach Mikel Arteta hailed Tierney's "humble" attitude.

“He’s exactly what we need," Arteta said in his pre-Norwich City press conference.

"He’s the type of player I love. The Tesco bag is Kieran, he’s a very humble guy and does what he feels is right.”
