What happened to Edouard Mendy in Chelsea training session ahead of Everton trip

Chelsea summer signing Edouard Mendy has discovered just how seriously the squad takes their punishments.

The Blues have been preparing for the game against Everton in the Premier League's late kick-off on Saturday as they look for the win that will take them back to the top of the table.

Although, it may only be for less than 24 hours with both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in action on Sunday.

Mendy, who was rested for the 1-1 draw against FC Krasnodar in midweek, suffered the ultimate forfeit during Friday afternoon's training session ahead of the clash against the Toffees.

The likes of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Thiago Silva and Olivier Giroud were all put through their paces at Chelsea's training base in Cobham alongside the keeper.

And there was an unfortunate moment for Mendy.

As spotted in a 'Chelsea Unseen' video uploaded to the club's YouTube page, the Senegal international appeared to have lost the keepy-up challenge between himself Willy Caballero, Kepa Arrizabalaga and the goalkeeping coaches.

His punishment was a hilarious one, although it could have been very painful.

Standing still, Mendy was defenseless as the aforementioned goalkeepers and coaches were allowed a free shot at flicking his ear.

Mendy has excelled since his move from Rennes in the summer and is expected to return to the Chelsea XI for the game against Everton.

If so, he will go in search of his 10th clean sheet across all competitions.

A feat that could be achieved if Thiago Silva partners Kurt Zouma in central defence as that is one of the reasons behind Mendy's impressive start to life in west London.

"Of course with Kurt and Thiago they speak French which is good for me, but I can communicate well with the other players too and I am really enjoying it,” Mendy said.

"I have joined a very good club. I feel good in this team. I have got to know them and gained an affinity with them which helps during games.

"Everyone has done everything to help me integrate as smoothly as possible, the players, the staff, they have all helped me.”
