It has not been an easy first season in England so far for Christian Pulisic.
Pulisic signed last January, but stayed in the Bundesliga on loan with Dortmund for the second half of last season, eventually joining up with his new team-mates - and a new boss in Lampard - in July.
But it has been anything but a dream spell in England so far.
The American midfielder has had just three Premier League starts under Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge, with a combined total of 277 minutes of Premier League action to his name.
He has just two assists so far in England's top flight since his big money £58.6million move from Borussia Dortmund.
And his form for his new club has transferred to the international stage now, where he has been seen as America's big hope.
Like most other nations, the USA played two games over the international break, with the Stars and Stripes starting off with a 7-0 pummeling of Cuba, in which Pulisic scored a penalty.
However, things did not go quite so well on Tuesday, when the US were beaten 2-0 by Canada - the first time they have lost to their opponents in 34 years.
Pulisic was hauled off the pitch after less than an hour, with the scores then tied at 0-0.
Alphonso Davies scored for the Canadians soon after, with Lucas Cavallini adding a second in injury-time to condemn the States to defeat.
But it is what happened to Pulisic when he was substituted that made headlines.
The Chelsea man was less than impressed to be hooked, and the camera continuously went to his position on the bench, where he was seen in an emotional state, head in hands, crying after coach Gregg Berhalter appeared to go over and explain the decision.
