What happened in Nottingham during warmest day of the year

On what has been confirmed by the Met Office as the warmest day of the year, it would seem lockdown rules were followed by Nottingham folk.

As temperatures rose to a balmy 19C on Sunday, April 5, people took their daily stroll or cycle but kept a safe distance.

Despite being the perfect day for a family picnic on the park, or a get together with friends, the scene at Forest Recreation Ground showed a responsible approach was taken to enjoy the sunshine.

Going into the weekend, health secretary Matt Hancock told the nation that lockdown rules are an instruction and not a request and even Skegness announced it was not open for visitors.

Many simply stuck to their local streets for a swift jog in the milder weather, while children played on front doorsteps and peddled bikes along the pavement.

The taste of summer marked the beginning of a few more days of blue skies, with temperatures set to reach 17C on Wednesday.

Forecasts also predict the approaching summer could be one of the warmest on record.

On Sunday afternoon, Nottinghamshire Police posted their thanks on social media channels.

"Nottinghamshire Police has thanked the public for their overwhelming support and co-operation through the first week of new regulations on social distancing designed to save lives and protect the NHS during the Coronavirus outbreak," they wrote.
