What happened between Matteo Guendouzi and Neal Maupay after Brighton beat Arsenal

Arsenal slipped to defeat on the south coast on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Brighton.

But that does not even tell half of the story.

The Gunners opened the scoring through Nicolas Pepe in the second half, but the headline prior to that was Bernd Leno's horrific injury.

The German keeper was nudged to the ground by Brighton keeper Neal Maupay and landed awkwardly, having to be stretchered off.

Lewis Dunk got the home side level, blocking an attempted Rob Holding clearance off his own goal-line to equalise, before, of course, Maupay snatched all three points with a 95th minute winner.

David Luiz: Is his reputation as error-prone unfair?

And that led to ugly scenes at the final whistle.

Arsenal's players were clearly not impressed with what Maupay had done to their keeper in the first half and that winning goal really did add insult to injury.

Matteo Guendouzi, a spiky character, appeared to give Maupay the slightest punch in the midriff as he tried to run past him, and then at the end of the game the young Gunner appeared to put his arm round Maupay's neck, with the BRighton player over-reacting in going to the floor.

It led to more ugly scenes between both sets of players and could be something that is looked into by the FA and Premier League.
