What happened between Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell during England training ahead of Croatia

Chelsea duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell are in good spirits ahead of England's Euro 2020 opener against Croatia.

After winning the Champions League a fortnight ago, it should come as no surprise that the pair are looking forward to hopefully tasting success on the international stage this summer.

Despite not playing a single minute of the Three Lions' two warm-up games against Austria and Romania, both Mount and Chilwell could feature against Croatia at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

It's a repeat of the World Cup semi-final three years ago and England will be out to avenge the 2-1 defeat.

Ahead of the big game at the national stadium, the likes of Reece James, Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane and Jadon Sancho were put through their paces at England's training base at St George's Park on Thursday.

It was a normal session as one would expect, but there was a hilarious moment involving Mount and Chilwell before they began to work out in the gym.

As spotted in the 'Inside Access' of England's training session video uploaded to YouTube, the pair were involved in attempting arguably the most awkward new handshake ever.

From the 9.09-minute mark, they go through the routine a couple of times before eventually deciding how it should go on the third attempt and it involves them both jumping before locking arms.

One could argue that the handshake/greeting needs a bit more work to make it perfect, but one area in which Mount wants to improve on is his goal scoring.

Despite falling one short of reaching double figures this season, his aim is to be more productive in the final third.

"You have to set goals before every season and you have to really set the target high to want to achieve that," he said. "I always want to go for 10 goals and just came short of that this season but I’ve had a lot of chances so I can’t look at it and say I’m happy with nine.

"I could and should have had way more, which is something that I’ll definitely be looking at. I was actually speaking to Joe Edwards [assistant coach] recently about looking at where on the pitch I am most productive and where I can be more productive.

"I actually score most of my goals from the middle of the box so where there are areas that I can do better, I need to look at them and see what I can improve on.

"That’s something that I always look at because I can still keep getting better and better. I can definitely score more goals, especially with the chances I get and the way we’re playing now. I can get my goals up more and obviously the assists as well.

"I just want to be better for my team-mates and for myself, to improve and keep getting better."
