What happened at the Cardiff City vs Swansea City match nobody was allowed to see

Cardiff City and Swansea City faced off today ahead of the resumption of the 2019/20 Championship campaign.

Neither side has featured in a second-tier fixture for three months as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, but the domestic season is set to continue next weekend.

Swansea restart against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday while Cardiff host table toppers Leeds United in the Welsh capital a day later.

As part of the two sides' preparations for the restart, WalesOnline revealed Neil Harris' Bluebirds were to face Steve Cooper's Swans in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

The venue of the meeting, or the kick-off time, was not disclosed due to legitimate concerns from the police and authorities.

However, details of the South Wales derby meeting can now be revealed.

Cardiff duo Aden Flint and Lee Tomlin both took to social media on Saturday to post images of the Bluebirds' home ground.

And it has been confirmed that two 80-minute matches took place between Cardiff and Swansea in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

The first match ended goalless while the second ended in a 1-1 draw. Bersant Celina netted for the Swans. It's been suggested Robert Glatzel bagged the goal for the Bluebirds.

It has been confirmed the back-to-back matches were played in a very good spirit, with no referees or assistants required.

Both teams made in-game changes to their sides, with those alterations being described as precautionary measures ahead of the resumption of the campaign.

Swansea beat their local rivals 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium in October thanks to Ben Wilmot's first goal for the club.

The reverse fixture at Cardiff City Stadium in January ended goalless.

Cardiff are currently ninth in the league table, just two points adrift of the play-off places with nine matches remaining.

As for Swansea, they are 11th, although Cooper's troops are only three points behind the top six.
