What happened at Shirehampton Primary School? Emergency services attend incident this morning

Emergency services attended a Bristol primary school this morning following an incident on a building site.

An air ambulance, alongside multiple police and fire vehicles were all deployed to Shirehampton Primary School, sparking concerns.

The school reassured anxious parents in a statement, stating that no child has been hurt in the incident.

South West Ambulance Service said in a statement that they are treating a middle-aged male who is described as having "serious injuries".

The spokesperson added: "I can confirm that we were called to an incident at this location at 10:43, with reports of a person being trapped in vehicle machinery.

"We allocated multiple resources including our Hazardous Area Response Team and an air ambulance.

"The incident is ongoing and we are treating a middle aged male patient with serious injuries."

Avon Fire and Rescue said in a statement: "Crews from Avonmouth and Southmead were called at 10:49am to St Mary's Walk, Shirehampton. On arrival they found one casualty trapped in machinery.

"Firefighters used hydraulic equipment to rescue the casualty from the machinery. The casualty was left in the hands of the ambulance service."

Avon and Somerset police also assisted the fire and ambulance services at the scene, adding that the patient had been working onsite as a contractor.

A spokesperson told Bristol Live: "We’re assisting the fire and ambulance service at the scene of an incident in the grounds of Shirehampton Primary School in which a man has been injured whilst operating machinery.

"The incident was reported at 10.52am today (Friday 17 September).

"The man, who was working as a contractor, has been taken to hospital and enquiries are ongoing at the scene in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive.

"No other persons were involved."
