What Hakim Ziyech plans to do at Ajax before completing £38m summer transfer to Chelsea

Hakim Ziyech is close to joining Chelsea, with reports claiming that the Blues have verbally agreed a deal for the Ajax midfielder.

Frank Lampard made no secret of his desire to sign attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window, but Chelsea were not able to land any of his main targets.

Ajax playmaker Ziyech was one of the names that Lampard was keen on, and despite competition from across Europe, it appears Chelsea are set to win the race for his signature.

According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, a €45millon (£38m) deal in principle has been agreed between the clubs, with negotiations still taking place to iron out the finer details of the move.

The report also claims that other clubs are open to enter the bidding for Ziyech as the midfielder has not signed on the dotted line at Stamford Bridge, but Ajax would prefer to sell to Chelsea.

With three months of the season remaining, the report also states that Ziyech is set on finishing his Ajax career with a flourish and is eager to help the club win every trophy possible before he leaves.

The Eredivisie champions currently sit top of the table with a three point advantage over AZ Alkmaar, whilst Erik ten Hag's side are still in the KNVB Cup and the Europa League.

Last season, Ziyech played a key role in his side reaching the Champions League semi-final, and his performances on the European stage were matched by his domestic achievements.

The midfielder claimed the club’s Player of the Year award, after netting 21 goals and 24 assists in 49 games.

Speaking last summer, Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars also confirmed the club would eventually allow him to leave.

"He leaves when a top club comes. He is in focus because of his achievements in the Champions League," he said.

"Many big clubs are buzzing around him. We promised Hakim [that we would] agree to a good transfer."
