What Granit Xhaka and David Luiz have done since Arsenal confirmed new training plans

Arsenal have confirmed that the squad will not return to training this week despite the end of the recommended two-week self-isolation period.

The Gunners were forced to train behind closed doors after head coach Mikel Arteta tested positive for coronavirus on 12 March.

Arteta's illness prompted Arsenal to close down their training grounds and send around 100 members of staff into self-isolation, with footballing authorities since postponing all matches until April 30 at the earliest.

In a statement on Monday, the Gunners announced that first team players will remain at home with the COVID-19 pandemic showing no sign of slowing down.

"Our men's first team players were scheduled to return to training on Tuesday after completing 14 days isolation following Mikel Arteta's positive diagnosis for the virus," a club spokesperson said.

"As a result of the current situation we are clear it would be inappropriate and irresponsible to ask players to come back at this time. Therefore our men's first team, women and academy players are all remaining at home.

"Stay at home and save lives."

With a potential return to action over a month away, Arsenal's players face a long process to keep fit ahead of a resumption of the season.

Granit Xhaka and David Luiz have established themselves as two of Arteta's key men in recent months, and the pair took to social media to show off their personal workout routines.

The duo joint-streamed a series of mini-exercises on Instagram Live, with Luiz appearing to lead the way with a series of planks and sit-ups.

Elsewhere, Gunners boss Arteta has offered fans an update on his condition.

Speaking on Spanish television channel La Sexta, Arteta stated he was back to normal after a dramatic fortnight that had seen Arsenal cancel their Premier League trip to Manchester City even his illness was confirmed due to a separate case involving Olympiacos owner Angelos Marinakis.

"I'm very well now, I feel that I have recovered," Arteta said.

"It took me three or four days to start feeling much better and with more energy, to leave the symptoms behind and now, the truth is that I feel very well."
