What Google Assistant users need to know about the $68 million settlement payout

  • Google has agreed to a $68 million settlement in a privacy class action lawsuit regarding its Google Assistant.
  • The lawsuit alleges that Google Assistant recorded users' conversations without consent, even when not prompted by activation phrases.
  • The settlement covers individuals who used Google Assistant products between May 2016 and March 2026.
  • Claimants are divided into two groups: device purchasers, who could receive $18 to $56 per device, and privacy-only claimants, who could receive $2 to $10.
  • Eligible users must submit a claim online or by mail using a Unique ID and PIN by August 27 to receive payment.
