'What goes around comes around' - Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel reacts to Man City defeat to Crystal Palace

Thomas Tuchel played down the significance of Manchester City's defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League title race, despite seeing Chelsea move five points clear of the Blues in the table.

City were poor against Palace, conceding twice either side of Aymeric Laporte's red card, and slipping to their second defeat of the season.

With Chelsea winning 3-0 at Newcastle, it meant that Tuchel's side opened up a five-point lead over defending champions City, and they were further boosted by Liverpool's draw at home to Brighton to sit three points clear at the top.

However, Tuchel dismissed the idea that today's results will decide anything significant in the overall destination of the title, and urged Chelsea to continue to focus on themselves to avoid tempting any fate later in the season.

Asked if seeing Liverpool and City drop points makes Chelsea's win sweeter, he said: “First of all it’s far too early and second of all we want to focus on ourselves.

“What goes around comes around. There’s a long way to go. If you think we are even happier this is absolutely not true.

"We should have our feet on the ground and be aware of what we put into the games that we are capable of winning. I am very happy about the team effort today.

"We don't celebrate other teams' results. You can lose to any team in any match in this league. So we focus on ourselves, keep going and let's see where it goes but it is a long way to go."
