What Giakoumakis told his agent when he first heard of potential Celtic move

Giorgos Giakoumakis 'didn't think twice' about joining Celtic.

The Greek striker signed for the club in the summer of 2021 as Ange Postecoglou spearheaded a monumental rebuild.

Giakouamkis went on to score 26 goals in 57 Celtic appearances, winning a Scottish Premiership title and Scottish League Cup before departing for Atlanta United after a year and a half in Glasgow's east end.

The now 30-year-old may not even have joined Celtic in the first place, though, as he had already agreed to sign for German outfit Werder Bremen: "To be honest, I had already shaken hands with Werder Bremen," he said [RecordSport].

"I went there to their training centre and I didn't have Celtic at this time. So, I went there. I shake hands, and they just didn't figure it out financially in the end, the two teams, the two clubs.

"And then Celtic made an offer. It was late in the transfer window. It was like 25th of August, 26th.

"It was super late. I was super stressed, as you can imagine, after this season. I didn't even think about that. I knew Celtic is a huge club. It was a huge opportunity for me. I didn't think twice. I said to my agent, 'Let's move there. You figure it out with the financial part. But as a club, it's exactly what I want.'"

Giakoumakis now plies his trade for Cruz Azul after joining them from Atlanta last summer. He has made 39 appearances for the Mexican side, scoring nine times.
