What Gary Lineker said about VAR and the penalty incident during Leicester vs Arsenal

Leicester have had the better of the first half exchanges at the King Power Stadium.

At home, that is to be expected from a team bang in form against a side struggling under Unai Emery.

In the tenth minute, Leicester thought they should have had a penalty.

Caglar Soyuncu darted in towards the back post to try and attack a cross from the left hand side but appeared to be pulled back by Matteo Guendouzi.

However, after a swift check by the VAR official, no spot-kick was awarded.

It left Sky Sports' co-commentator Alan Smith baffled.

When the replay was shown, he said: "Oh dear, oh dear, he might be in trouble here, Guendouzi, Arsenal might be in trouble."

And after it was not given, Smith added: "You could see he was worried straight away. I'm not quite sure how the VAR panel hasn't deemed that a foul, I'm not quite sure."

And former Leicester player and Foxes fan Gary Lineker was of the same opinion, blasting VAR for the intricacies of the offside law while not giving penalties for situations like that.

There have been plenty of occasions this season where VAR have drawn lines on replays to deem whether players' body parts are in an offside position or not, in contrast to the number of penalty calls that have not been overturned.
