What Gary Lineker has said about VAR after Teemu Pukki has goal disallowed vs Spurs

Teemu Pukki thought he had put Norwich in dreamland against Tottenham at Carrow Road.

The Canaries were already a goal to the good thanks to Mario Vrancic's strike and Spurs looked to be in big trouble when Pukki raced in behind the Spurs defence to slot past Paulo Gazzaniga.

But VAR intervened. In bizarre circumstances it has to be said.

The Finn looked well onside as he came back from an offside position initially. But the Video Assistant Referee at Stockley Park got the lines out and adjudged that Pukki's right shoulder was ahead of Toby Alderweireld's knee and therefore offside.

Jose Mourinho: Harry Kane is fantastic

It was a decision that left the football world stunned on social media, including Tottenham supporters.

Former Spurs striker Gary Lineker has often spoken out about VAR and its use for offside decisions in this, the first season of it in the Premier League.

And he did not disappoint with his views on the technology following Pukki's disallowed effort.

He said: "Here we go again. More nonsense from VAR. Pukki goal ruled out when level. If you have to draw lines and dots and it’s still not clear one way or the other, then please stop undermining the on-field officials. Absurd."

It was an opinion held by many football fans and it will surely lead to a change in how the technology is used in the coming seasons.

And on punditry duty Jamie Redknapp, another former Spurs player, said: I think they're going to have to change the rules next season."
