England manager Gareth Southgate believes Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has been excellent in both of his side’s November fixtures.
The 23-year-old has so far endured a tough campaign for Spurs, only making 13 appearances in all competitions this season, and missing out on their last three starting line-ups.
But the Tottenham midfielder completed the full 90 minutes for the Three Lions in Thursday’s 7-0 win against Montenegro.
Winks then backed-up his impressive display at Wembley by opening the scoring against Kosovo on Sunday evening - his first goal for his country - before going on to complete another 90 minutes at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium, Pristina.
And Southgate, speaking post-match to ITV Sport, was clearly delighted with Winks' contribution in the two games as England sealed their place at the European Championships next summer.
“Harry Winks was excellent in both games,” Southgate said.
“He took the ball well in moments tonight when we needed calming. His ability to receive the ball under pressure and keep his calmness really settles the team.”
Meanwhile, Southgate also spoke about Raheem Sterling’s reintegration after last week’s bust-up with Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.
“You have to work through any difficulties that you might have," he said.
“The whole group have done that really well and I think we come out of this stronger than we started it frankly.”
