What Gareth Bale has told Jose Mourinho ahead of Marine FA Cup tie as he issues fitness update

Jose Mourinho has stated that Gareth Bale wants to be involved in the Tottenham squad on Sunday in the FA Cup tie against Marine.

Returning to the club in September on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid, the attacker has not been able to put together a consistent run in the side due to fitness issues.

Handed a start in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Stoke City prior to Christmas, Bale did score a very good header from Harry Winks' cross but was replaced at half-time due to injury.

Mourinho indicated after the 3-1 win that he believed it was a calf injury, with the Welshman subsequently not featuring for the Lilywhites since the game at the bet365 Stadium.

However, it now appears that the 31-year-old is returning to fitness as Mourinho confirmed that he had returned to Tottenham training on Friday.

The boss also went on to explain that Bale wants to be involved in the FA Cup third round game against non-league side Marine, with a decision over his place in the matchday 20 to be decided on Saturday.

"He trained today first time with us so tomorrow second time and tomorrow after training we will make a decision and what I can say and it’s also a way to show you the way we are looking, the respect we have for this fixture, is that Gareth told me he would like to go and would like to play so if tomorrow if the feelings are positive, Gareth will come," explained the 57-year-old.

Mourinho also revealed to football.london in his press conference that both Harvey White and Jack Clarke will make the trip to the Marine Travel Arena for the game.

It was also confirmed by the boss that the duo will be joined in the squad by one of the club's U18 players.
