Match-winner Gabriel Jesus has implied that he made it his mission to ensure Neymar didn't dominate the headlines after scoring the winner in Manchester City's 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening.
After falling behind just five minutes into the start of the second half to Kylian Mbappe's low drive from inside the box, City turned the game on its head thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and Jesus, ensuring they have qualified for the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League as Group A winners with a game to spare.
City were dominant for most of the contest and fully deserved their third successive Champions League win, meaning they will not have too much pressure on their shoulders when they face RB Leipzig away from home in their final group game next month.
Jesus proved to be City's hero, turning the ball home from close quarters on 76 minutes, converting Bernardo Silva's smart pass.
After the game, Jesus, who stepped off the bench during the second half, paid tribute to his City team-mate for producing such a brilliant pass to pick him out and net the winner, whilst also claiming that he had told Brazilian team-mate Neymar that he was not prepared to "let him play" because of the damage he could have done if City had not paid close attention to him.
"Thanks to Bernardo, that's why I waited," Jesus told BT Sport. "I know his quality. I can score, come in and help my team. That's what I want to do, to try and help.
"It was a great ball by Bernardo.
"I told Neymar I can’t let him play today, because I know if I let him go to the goal he is dangerous, so I stopped him because we had to win.
"We have a lot of players that can play well and win and our power is like this. Everyone wants to give a good ball and we try to score, nobody's selfish they want to pass and win the game."
On the victory itself, Jesus' City team-mate, Bernardo, who was outstanding once again, said: "We're very happy with the three points.
"We had a fight with the group and we're very happy because our fans deserved a good performance and good game.
"It was a frustrating first half because it felt like we controlled the game, but weren’t scoring again."
