What Frank Lampard wants to create at Chelsea will have all supporters excited for the future

Frank Lampard will be back at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as Chelsea take on Leicester City in their first home game of the 2019/20 campaign.

Falling to a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on the opening weekend and then losing on penalties to Liverpool in the Super Cup in midweek, the head coach will be hoping the Blues register their first win of the season on his return to SW6.

Getting a tremendous reception from the fans on his previous returns during his year at Man City and his spell as Derby County boss 12 months ago, supporters will undoubtedly make it an occasion to treasure as he takes his place in the dugout for the very first time.

Lampard always had a close bond with fans during his 13 years as a player and he is hoping to recreate the same now as a manager as he looks to guide his players to more silverware over the coming years.

The passion was there for all to see in Istanbul on Wednesday evening and now he is targeting more of the same as he aims to create such a strong bond between both players and supporters.

"The thing for me from my point of view is that I came from West Ham which is not an easy move," he said. "I wouldn't say necessarily that the fans were rubbing their hands like they had the next big thing.

"I was £11million and that was a lot of money at the time and they took to me really well when my first season was okay.

"They made me feel very comfortable here.

"When you spend 13 years and you have a lot of success and you feel the bond and we had a group of players led by John, myself and the Didiers and that, we felt the club really strongly and I think the fans appreciated that.

"That's kind of where I want to get us back to as a club as well.

"I want the players and fans to have a two-way thing where the players have so much passion, like the passion they showed on Wednesday night, the fans love that.

"The reaction I've had from fans and people I know was nothing negative at all to Wednesday night because we lost the game, even to Manchester United generally.

"I think personally I felt the club in that era and the fans are special to me."
