Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has led his side to the knockout stages of the Champions League. in his first season in charge of the club.
A 2-1 win over French side Lille on Tuesday night ensured the Blues' progression to the last 16 of the tournament. They will find out their opponents in the first knockout round when the draw takes place on Monday 16th December.
Lampard joined Chelsea in the summer, after impressing in his first season in management by leading Derby County to within 90 minutes of a return to the Premier League.
The Blues turned to their former player after the departure of former head coach Maurizio Sarri, who left to join Italian giants Juventus.
Despite not being able to add to his squad over the summer due to a transfer ban that has now been lifted, Chelsea have impressed under the club legend this season.
The progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League is added to the Blues sitting in fourth place in the Premier League.
In reaching the last 16 in Europe, Lampard has become just the second English coach to progress to the knockout stages of the competition. Harry Redknapp - Lampard's uncle, is the only other manager to achieve the feat in the 2010s (via Squawka football ).
Craig Shakespeare, now Watford assistant manager did lead his Leicester team to the last eight in 2017, but the Foxes qualified for the knockout stages under title-winning Italian manager Claudio Ranieri.
Lampard will be hoping to make more history with Chelsea both in the short and long term.
