What France’s shock Hungary result means for Chelsea's German contingent's Euro 2020 hopes

Chelsea’s representatives at Euro 2020 now face a tense game against Portugal on Saturday evening following France’s draw with Hungary.

One of the favourites at the tournaments, Les Blues were held to a 1-1 draw in Budapest as Attila Fiola and Antoine Griezmann exchanged strikes.

It all means that Group F in the tournament is still hugely up for grabs which the likes of Chelsea trio Kai Havertz, Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner will be hoping to take advantage of.

Ahead of their meeting with reigning European champions Portugal tonight, Joachim Lowe’s Germany sit bottom of the group without a point following their slender 1-0 defeat to France in their opening game of the tournament.

A win against Portugal tonight would be quite a statement considering that it would carry Germany up to second in the group by virtue of their superior head to head record.

Considering they are set to take on the lesser-fancied Hungary in their final group game, that would certainly give them an excellent chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds.

However, a draw would be terminal for Germany’s hopes of topping the group as they would then only be able to match Portugal’s points tally of four, but the latter would hold a significant advantage on goal difference with their head-to-head record being identical.

Should Germany indeed fail to beat Portugal tonight then that would give the nation an extremely tense final match in Munich against Hungary.

If once again, Die Mannschaft fail to win, it would mean an early exit from the tournament for the nation and of course Werner, Rudiger and Havertz.
