What former Spurs and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell said about the north London derby

Sol Campbell has described the north London derby as a "great advert for football" after seeing Arsenal and Tottenham play out a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

The former Tottenham and Arsenal defender was a pundit in the studio for Sky Sports at the Emirates Stadium, watching two of his old clubs do battle in the north London derby.

Campbell has previously played for both sides in the derby fixture, and he was full of praise for both the Lilywhites and the Gunners after a hard-fought contest in north London.

“Tottenham definitely had the first half. They played fantastic, they controlled the ball. The counter-attacks were incredible," he said, speaking after the game.

"Arsenal were guilty of allowing them to get in those spaces to quickly. Arsenal showed great character coming back, getting that goal (Lacazette) at that time was crucial.

"It kind of swung the whole game and you go back into the dressing room with one team high and the other team expected to be high but a little bit down. Then they kicked on from there.

"Both teams showed great character. A great advert for football, it was great.”

Meanwhile, Campbell praised Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over his movement for the second half equaliser, with the former England defender explaining why it makes him so difficult to mark.

“I think once he [Aubameyang] moves across, the defenders have to move slightly across because if you stay in that position you become a mannequin. You’re a target, that’s what centre-forwards want.

“You have to move. Football is about movement. You have to move with the cross. Every inch, it all counts.”
