What former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Stephen Henderson has said after joining Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace's first signing of the summer, Stephen Henderson, has described it as a "no-brainer" after joining the Eagles on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old Irishman has become the Eagles' first signing of the summer, signing a season-long deal with Palace following his release from Championship side Nottingham Forest earlier this summer.

Palace are the 15th club of Henderson's career, with the goalkeeper playing for such clubs as Portsmouth, West Ham, Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic.

And Henderson, who started his career at Aston Villa, has described his delight at joining the Eagles, adding that it was an easy decision for him once he knew of the club's interest.

"It's a privileged position so I'm delighted to get it over the line," he told the Palace club website .

"I spoke to [Palace goalkeeping coach] Dean Kiely and he said: 'Do you fancy coming in and having the opportunity to work with the lads?' Obviously it's a no-brainer and I jumped at the opportunity."

Henderson has already been training with the first team this week, and is linking up with the Palace squad in Switzerland as the Eagles continue their preparations for the new season by taking part in the Uhrencup.

And the 31-year-old has spoken positively of the club, and the goalkeepers already at Palace, with Henderson becoming the Eagles' third senior stopper, alongside Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey.

"Training [on Friday] was absolutely excellent. The goalkeepers are at a very high standard which is what I expected, so I'm just going to take it all in and learn from them and try to support them as best I can. Just seeing on my first day, the standards are what I expected from two top Premier League goalkeepers.

"I've played at Selhurst Park in recent years and it's a very daunting ground to play at. The fans are known for their home and away support but particularly at Selhurst so it would be amazing to witness it first hand."
