What former Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers told Kelechi Iheanacho after missing THAT sitter vs Man City

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Kelechi Iheanacho should have equalised late on against Man City - much to the dismay of Liverpool fans.

City needed a victory over the Foxes to move back to the top of the Premier League table and ensure that the destiny of the title was in their hands going into the final day of the season.

It had been a difficult game but they finally found their goal from the most unlikely of places when Vincent Kompany leathered the ball into the top corner from 30 yards.

Yet Leicester had a golden chance to equalise, ruin the occasion and give the initiative to Liverpool late on.

Going into the final minutes of the game Leicester's Hamza Chouddhury played a defence splitting pass to former Blue Iheanacho on the edge of the box who, while under little pressure and with the goal straight ahead, scuffed his shot well wide of the post.

It was an incredible chance and Rodgers believes it should have ended with the ball in the back of the net.

“He should score, I said that to him afterwards, in the big games there are not many moments," the Leicester boss said after the game.

"It was tight, we were very, very good in our defensive organisations. They didn't have many chances and we didn't have many. But the one that came, you have to score that. He knows.

"It's moments when you can come into the game and make an impact, he's a great boy, works very, very hard in training.

Champions League upsets leave Man City with plenty to think about

"He's got in front of him a top-class operator in Jamie [Vardy] so it's difficult for him to find rhythm. However, it’s moments like that where you can make an impact. He's actually done that in the other games.

"It was a big chance for him, the ball was there and it was on his good side. But it wasn't to be. He got himself in the position, I felt we would have deserved that at least."

As a result of City's tight victory they only have to defeat Brighton on the final day of the season to retain the Premier League trophy, but anything less than three points will open the door for Liverpool to win it for the first time.
