Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot has praised the performance of Fikayo Tomori against Liverpool.
The youngster was tasked with marking Mohamed Salah in Sunday's encounter at Stamford Bridge, and although the Blues ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat, Tomori managed to keep the Egyptian quiet.
The defender is one of three Academy graduates who have been handed a place in Chelsea's starting line-up following the appointment of Frank Lampard this summer.
Prior to this season though, Tomori had spent time on loan at Brighton, Hull and Derby in a bid to secure regular first-team football.
And Melchiot, speaking on talkSPORT on Monday morning, was left more than impressed with what he witnessed from the Canada-born centre-back.
“I also want to highlight Tomori,” the Dutchman said.
“I spent 90 minutes watching this young kid and the way he played against Salah was really impressive.
“There were moments where I didn’t even see Salah in the game, Tomori did really well against him.
“There were a couple of races where Salah had the ball and it was one-on-one situation and I thought this might be trouble. But he just managed to get the ball off him, hold possession and then carry on making sure the team could attack again.
“I really enjoyed watching Tomori play in a game of that size and doing so well.”
