What fans now need to do in order to watch Newcastle United after Plan B gets green light

MPs have passed Boris Johnson's latest proposals for Plan B of the government's covid restrictions in response to the spread of the Omicron variant.

One of the proposals was that a vaccination pass would be mandatory for entry in large venues in England. 126 MPs voted against this new law but it was passed with 369 votes in favour.

This will have an affect on match going football fans. Newcastle United fans will now need to show proof of full vaccination or a negative lateral flow test before being allowed entry into St James' Park, as well as any other football stadium they wish to enter until further notice.

For now this will mean proof of two doses of a covid vaccination but this will in time be increased to three once it is deemed a reasonable amount of time for all adults to have been given their booster shot.

Masks will not be mandatory when in the stands - although some clubs have advised fans to wear them but it will be mandatory to wear masks in inside areas such as stadium concourses and club shops.
