What every pundit said about Scotland as Gary Neville makes England admission

The dream of Scotland reaching the last 16 of Euro 2020 was kept alive in their Group D draw with England.

Scotland had chances with the likes of Che Adams and Lyndon Dykes leading the line and were unlucky not to take all three points away from Wembley.

Stephen O'Donnell brought out a great save from Jordan Pickford as the right-back's volley seemed destined for the bottom corner.

There was a couple of let-offs early the game and England started the second half on the front foot and David Marshall saved well from Mount's powerful effort.

However, Steve Clarke' s side limited the Auld Enemy and their skipper Harry Kane to very few clear cut chances.

Adams also had another great chance late in the game when the ball fell to him unmarked on the edge of the six-yard box, but he ballooned the ball over the bar from a tight angle.

Here is a selection of what some of football's best known voices have had to say.

Graeme Souness - 'Gilmour was the best midfielder on the pitch'

"I think throughout the 90 minutes you saw that Scottish players were putting their bodies on the line. I want to make this point, people will say Scotland were passionate and they worked harder than England. They did that, but they played better. Their passing was better, their movement was better.

"Billy Gilmour was the best midfielder on the pitch. Don’t leave thinking it was Scotland's effort that got them to where they were, they were a good team tonight."

Ian Wright - 'Clarke made confident changes'

"If you are coming in to play England, they would have been worried about England, without a shadow of a doubt, of course they will. But when you start like that a team is going to get confidence. You saw the substitutions he made (Clarke), they were attacking, confident changes."

John Collins - 'Billy Gilmour was incredible'

John Collins (SNS Group)

"Steve Clarke and his coaching team will be very proud. It was an incredible effort. The midfield three, McGinn, McGregor, little Billy Gilmour, incredible.

"The boys stuck together when the home fans were moaning. We can enjoy the moment and it's all to play for at Hampden."

David Moyes - 'It's a point that gives us a chance'

"It was a great performance by the team.

"We suffered in the first five minutes of the second half, but after that we controlled a lot of the game. The whole team was fantastic.

"Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney down the left, they were fantastic. It's a really good point and it gives us a chance.

Scott Brown - 'It's kept our dream alive'

(SNS Group)

"Scotland were a great team. They worked hard for each other. They all pressed together as a team.

"They frustrated England and pressed as a team, especially that midfield. Billy Gilmour, John McGinn and McGregor overpowered England today. They looked leggy and couldn't break through the lines.

"That was due to Steve Clarke's tactics and he got them spot on today. It's kept our dream alive, but we have to win a game to get to the four points. if they work as hard as they possibly can they've got a great chance. It's the team spirit.

Gary Neville - 'The three midfield players were better for Scotland'

"From the very first few minutes of the game, those early balls played up to Dykes and Adams; they won those and it gave them encouragement.

"England never won the ball high up the pitch.

"The three midfield players were better for Scotland than they were for England today.
